Easy Money Saving Tips!

My Grampa gave me an article the other day entitled "99 Great Ways to Save 2011." It had some great information and tips that I'd love to pass on to you! This was written in AARP magazine, and while some deals were geared towards seniors, most could be used by anyone!
  • Adding just $10 per payment (for a 30-year, 5% mortgage for $100,000) can shave 14 months of a $100,000 mortgage, and save $4500 in interest!
  • Go to www.BillShrink.com to compare costs for services like cell phones and cable. Go to www.FindaBetterBank.com to compare account plans at local banks and credit unions.
  • The vegetables that give you the best nutrition for the price are: cabbage, collard greens, mustard greens, turnip greens, and carrots. The fruits that offer the best nutrition for your money are: watermelon, plums, oranges, apples, and strawberries.
  • For those in the age 50+ demographic, go to www.Sciddy.com to check discounts in your city or zip code for people over the age of 50.
  • If you want to call another county, www.Freephone2phone.com will give you 10 minutes of free calling to landlines in 55 countries. You can connect the call after listening to a short ad.
  • You don't have to be a Costco member to use their pharmacy! You can get their discount prescriptions even if you don't have a membership, according to federal law.
  • You can save up to $200 a year by insulating your water heater. Heater blankets run about $20.
  • Hanging clothes to dry outside instead of using the dryer can save you $85 per year.
  • The best day to buy airline tickets is usually Tuesday. Weekends are the most expensive days to purchase travel tickets.
